An Album Winchester Cartwright
Winchester Cartwright arrive with An Album, ten folk and folk-rock songs sung so sincerely you may not notice how strange they are. A male and female duo backed by a warm acoustic ensemble, they bring hushed harmonies and fingerpicked grace to subjects no one has ever dared set to music this tenderly. There is a hymn to the humble hot dog, a waltz about filing a joint tax return, a mock epic about a roadside dare gone wrong, and a heartbreak ballad sung by the one man who cannot see he caused it. Along the way you will meet an absorbed twin who takes the blame for everything, a taxidermist's daughter who answers in the voices of the dead, and a fellow politely turned away at the gates of a paradise that was never his. It is funny, it is eerie, and now and then it is quietly beautiful. An Album is exactly what it says it is, and nothing you expect.
