Captain Xanadu And His Orbiting Orchestrions have never met a war they couldn't waltz through. Six Days is the ensemble's most ambitious suite to date: seven tracks of historically precise, wordplay-forward space-age lounge charting a six-day conflict and its geopolitical aftermath from every angle at once. The Sinai gets a mambo. Tel Aviv gets a late-night cocktail trio. Cairo gets an oud in the Hijaz maqam and a propaganda broadcast to answer for. Beirut gets an accordion and the studied elegance of a city that read the signs and chose the Corniche anyway. The Khartoum conference room gets a jazz waltz in three-four that cannot find its resolution because the resolution never came. Beneath it all, the Jerusalem Freighter hauls her cargo of twenty centuries from the opening track to the last whispered note. The Orchestrions have done their homework. The vibraphone has never sounded so geopolitical.
