The Watergate Scandal
Captain Xanadu and His Orbiting Orchestrions
Little is known about Captain Xanadu. His press materials list his home port as "geosynchronous orbit, somewhere above the Potomac." His band, the Orbiting Orchestrions (a rotating ensemble of exiles, visionaries, and at least one former lounge act from the moons of Saturn), have never given an interview, attended an award ceremony, or confirmed their own existence to the satisfaction of any regulatory body. What they have done is this: descended, at intervals, to document the follies of the civilization below. Their instruments (vibraphone, muted brass, upright bass, and the occasional reel-to-reel) have been trained before on subjects ranging from the merely scandalous to the cosmically absurd. Now, from their vantage point high above the monuments and the marble, they turn their attentions to the grandest American political drama of the twentieth century. The Watergate Scandal as Told by the Soft Sounds of a Starship Lounge is nine tracks of historically meticulous, rhythmically impeccable, and occasionally devastating cocktail music. It will not tell you anything about Watergate that the record does not already know. It will, however, make you want a drink while you learn it.
Captain Xanadu could not be reached for comment.
He was, as always, overhead.
